Note to Carrie: Where are your keys?

I haven't posted this story yet because it was still too raw to 'put out there'. Alas, enough time has passed for me to fully realize the humor in the circumstance.

Did I just say "alas"? I'm not sure what came over me. I feel better now.

Anyway, the story starts Tuesday morning after dropping Mara off at preschool. The setting is the parking lot of Mara's preschool. And the characters are one dorky mom and two little girls. Ok, here goes the story....

I was standing in the parking lot talking to a friend. I had strapped Becca in her carseat, and Emily was sitting in my seat 'driving'. I finished my conversation and got Emily into her seat.

Now I have to tell you about the stupidest feature on my van. When you push the button to lock the doors but the doors are open, nothing happens. But the doors lock a few seconds after the doors are shut. I need to write to Chevy about exactly how stupid that feature (if you can call it a feature) is.

So on with the story... I got Emily into her seat. She was mad at me because I got her baby's head under the seat belt while buckling her up so she was screaming "you hurt my baby" at the top of her lungs. I was so grateful that I could shut the door on her and have ten seconds of silence while I walked around to my door.

That silence was interrupted by the sound of the doors locking. That would be the sound of the doors locking with my keys sitting in the front seat and two little girls buckled into their carseats.

Evidently Emily had locked the doors while she was sitting in my seat, but they didn't lock until I shut the door.

I honestly think that my heart stopped for a minute. Luckily...no not luckily...thank you Jesus that my friend had not driven off yet, that my friend just happened to still have a key to my house that she should have given back to me weeks ago, and that my husband left his keys to the van at home that day. So I drove my friend's van to my house to get the extra key to the van and rescue the girls!

The story has a happy ending but I think I lost at least a year of my life in the mean time. It's been one of those weeks....is it Friday yet?

Ok..
1. Glad the girls are ok. I laughed about the baby doll incident b/c we have had several of those lately and, while they are not funny at the time, it is quite amusing what can really GET ON OUR NERVES at the time!

2. What's up with the ads on your sidebar? Have you made lots of money yet?

3. Thanks for all your help lately with all my apple questions!

Oh yes, been there with the locking keys in the car thing although (knock on wood) so far the kids haven't ever been in the car at the time. Our van has the same (idiotic) feature as yours, so I can very easily see that happening. I'm glad you were able to get the girls out quickly! :)

I did the same thing when Mullin was just a baby. Had to call Mark at work, and he had to come home and rescue him. I know the feeling!!

I have so been there...I have a Chevy Venture and that's definitely happened to us before! Also, for a while there was a short that caused it to just do it randomly, with no buttons pushed whatsoever. It got so bad that we had to put a magnetic key holder underneath with a spare key because in the summer in south MS, you don't have time to wait around if a kid is inside. Thankfully, once a separate electrical problem was taken care of, the random locking thing disappeared (the two were completely unrelated seemingly, yet apparently they weren't LOL).

Glad you were able to get it remedied quickly!
