Nelly Olsen Hair! *Updated*

My mom used to put rags in my super straight hair to make it curly. This was a very sweet time the other night as I carried on the tradition.Mara loved the rags in her hair. She wouldn't let Emily or Becca come within three foot of her because they would "MESS UP MY HAIR!!!" But then she was even more proud of her curls the next morning. And she's already asked me to put them in again tonight! Do you do things with your kids that your mom or dad used to do with you?

*Updated*
I'm going to try to describe how to put the Nelly Olsen curls in....
First you need to get strips of fabric about 1" wide and at least twice as long as the hair. Sheets work great, or I used a really old tea towel. Put the strip over the head (Mara held on to the other end to make it easier) and wrap the wet hair around the strip. Then take the other end of the strip and wrap it around the hair, and tie the end of the strip at the bottom. Leave them in over night. Be sure NOT to brush the curls in the morning, just separate them with your fingers and you've got Nelly Olsen hair!

Okay - I need clarification! My mom used to do the same but it worked more like the pink foam rollers, you started at the bottom and rolled up and then tied the ends. I ended up with little "knot blobs" of hair and fabric and they NEVER came out like Nelly Olsen's! What is your method - my own two girls would love this and I must know how you did it!

Yes...try to bargain with them, make them sit at the table to eat, tell them to back up from the tv. Oh.. you mean fun things. Yes, Maddie loves to crawl in bed every night and read and she is just like me.."Just one more!" And Claire is my little snuggle bunny.. just like I used to do with my mom.

Oh that looks so cute! How do you do it? I'd love to try that in my girls' hair (the two that have hair anyway, LOL).

This year I'm going to make Christmas cookies with my girls, just like my mom used to with my brother and I. :)

I love the hair, Mara.

My mom made most of my clothes when I was little. She would let me pick out the pattern and fabrics and trims. Emma is now doing the same thing. She picks out patterns and yarns for me to knit her something special.

Definitely the Christmas Sugar Cookie tradition--they can be a real pain to make and decorate, but my grandma did it, my mom did it, and now I do it every year with my family. I even have the old timey silver tin cookie cutters that used to be my grandma's.

We also have the bedtime thing too--rubbing backs, cuddling, and singing songs.

Can't wait for Shiloh to get older so I can do even more stuff like that!

Wow! That came out great! LOL My Jayna says the same thing when getting her dressed: "Watch the hair.." :)

How sweet! My mom always used to braid my sister and my wet hair the night before and when we'd wake up the next morning, wala, beautiful curls! I used to feel so beautiful with them! I've always wanted a girl to pass this tradition down to....
