sleep: (v.) to take the rest...

...afforded by a suspension of voluntary bodily functions and the natural suspension, complete or partial, of consciousness, cease being awake.

Can someone please come an explain to my children exactly what sleep is and how it is best practiced at night?

I'm on night three of no sleep and this mamma is about to reach the breaking point.

And it's spring break...we're supposed to be enjoying the fabulous spring weather together.

So to my children: Let's get some sleep tonight...and for today, let's just chill-out, stop arguing and fighting and start at least pretending that we're enjoying each others' company before your mama goes OFF THE DEEP END!

(oops, I think that was just the deep end. Oh well, at least everyone knows me here...and knows to leave me alone!)

Edited to add: Oh, but at least Mandisa's new album came out today so I'm grooving to some amazing new music while I'm off the deep end!

First Day of School

I'm late posting these (since the first day of school was almost two weeks ago), but better late than never.... right?!?
I think they're pretty proud of their new lunch boxes too.
And oh yes and the dork who wrote 9-01-08 on the sign really meant 9-02-08, but hey what's the difference!

This is all my mushy brain can come up with today.

Remember that snow day several weeks ago? I had fun wasting time on the laptop while the girls froze their extremities. Oh, and in my defense they all came in while I was in the middle of doing the countries so 24 is totally acceptable while being asked every two seconds to feel how cold my nose/feet/hands/etc is!

Ok, I admit it...we love High School Musical!

Becca has a new favorite syllable lately. She's constantly saying "bop, bop, bop, bop."

The other day Mara said, "Mom, Becca's singing High School Musical! Bop, bop, bop, bop to the top...."

I don't know whether to be proud or embarrassed that we've watched/listened to High School Musical enough that Mara thinks the baby is even singing one of the songs!

Photographic Proof...

...that I'm loosing it, or rather lost it!

I started a load of laundry last night before I went to bed. Started the washer, added the detergent, and well that's as far as I got. Not sure what distracted me, but I went to put the clothes in the dryer this morning and this is what met me in the laundry room...That would be a totally empty washer full of water.

I guess there are worse ways to loose it!

"Look Mom..."

Emily: Look Mom, booger!
Me: Ewww, did you get that out of your nose?

(I know, that was a stupid question!)
Emily: No
Me: Where did you get it?

Emily: (sticking her finger up her nose) Right here.

Like I said, I know....stupid question.

Only genius' allowed!

cash advance

This cracks me up. I think if your blog doesn't quite make it to the third grade reading level, then they just say it's genius level to make you feel better. My husband's blog is College Ed/Grad level, but he'll never know it because he doesn't read my blog....but I'm not bitter about it at all!

Note to Carrie: Where are your keys?

I haven't posted this story yet because it was still too raw to 'put out there'. Alas, enough time has passed for me to fully realize the humor in the circumstance.

Did I just say "alas"? I'm not sure what came over me. I feel better now.

Anyway, the story starts Tuesday morning after dropping Mara off at preschool. The setting is the parking lot of Mara's preschool. And the characters are one dorky mom and two little girls. Ok, here goes the story....

I was standing in the parking lot talking to a friend. I had strapped Becca in her carseat, and Emily was sitting in my seat 'driving'. I finished my conversation and got Emily into her seat.

Now I have to tell you about the stupidest feature on my van. When you push the button to lock the doors but the doors are open, nothing happens. But the doors lock a few seconds after the doors are shut. I need to write to Chevy about exactly how stupid that feature (if you can call it a feature) is.

So on with the story... I got Emily into her seat. She was mad at me because I got her baby's head under the seat belt while buckling her up so she was screaming "you hurt my baby" at the top of her lungs. I was so grateful that I could shut the door on her and have ten seconds of silence while I walked around to my door.

That silence was interrupted by the sound of the doors locking. That would be the sound of the doors locking with my keys sitting in the front seat and two little girls buckled into their carseats.

Evidently Emily had locked the doors while she was sitting in my seat, but they didn't lock until I shut the door.

I honestly think that my heart stopped for a minute. Luckily...no not luckily...thank you Jesus that my friend had not driven off yet, that my friend just happened to still have a key to my house that she should have given back to me weeks ago, and that my husband left his keys to the van at home that day. So I drove my friend's van to my house to get the extra key to the van and rescue the girls!

The story has a happy ending but I think I lost at least a year of my life in the mean time. It's been one of those weeks....is it Friday yet?
