Girls Only!

I'm heading out of town shortly (ooo, I've got to finish packing!) for a girls only weekend. I'm so excited to spend time with my mom and with several girlfriends.

O, and shopping at IKEA! We don't have one in our area so I'm excited to check it out. I think my checkbook is already scared though!

As if shopping and hanging out isn't enough, we get to go to the Deeper Still conference. I went back in September and blogged about it afterwards. It was so fabulous that we're going again!

Look out Atlanta....here we come!

Works for me Wednesday: Preschool games

First of all let me just say that I HATE preschool games. The girls love them but I'd rather gouge my eyes out than play some of them!

Exhibit 1: Lucky Ducks. Yep, plenty of eye gouging when they choose this game.
Exhibit 2: Chutes and Ladders. I've blogged about this 'confusion in a box' before. Yep, more eye gouging.

Exhibit 3: Hi Ho Cherry-O. This one is not too painful the first two times you play it...but after the tenth time in an hour....you guessed it, eye gouging.
Exhibit 4: Memory game. This one is also fun the first time you play it, but Becca always makes the girls mad when she messes up the cards on the floor. They all end up crying, and you guessed it again...more eye gouging.

Exhibit 5: Boggle Jr. Mara loves this game but Emily doesn't 'get' it at all. It's a pretty good game but Emily always wants to play too, and then it makes Mara mad when she doesn't understand how to play. No eye gouging yet, but still not a whole lot of fun.
Exhibit 6: Candyland Castle. Finally one that we love. All three girls can even play this game without Mommy (after she tires from the first dozen games). They really like the whole lever pulling thing, and it's easy enough for an almost two year old yet holds a four year old's attention.

Exhibit 7: Zingo. This game is FABULOUS. I had never heard of it before, but we got it as a gift from my in-laws. If you have preschoolers who love games and you'd like to keep your eyes...you must go get this game! Again all three girls love it and can play by themselves as well. Apple store?

You know I usually share the cute things that come out of the girls' mouths....but today I just have to tell you about my Bunco friends.

First of all, thank you Jesus for my Bunco gals! We have such a blast, and I come home recharged and ready to love and take care of my girls and husband.

Last week at Bunco we were talking about a nice mall in our area, and a particular restaurant that is near the mall. So I excitedly added, "Ooooo, there's an Apple store at that mall too!" I got several very confused looks and someone said, "Apple store? You mean the Apple Barn?" And they were confused as to why I was so excited.

Well, obviously my Bunco friends haven't sold their souls to the Apple gods like I have....and I bet they have more money in their pockets too! But I got a good laugh.

Thanks girls for the recharge and for the laugh even a week later!

I've tried...I've really tried.

I have half-written and trashed about a half a dozen posts in the last week. In fact I almost just trashed this one too.

I'm hanging in there and hope to be able to complete a thought soon. I've never been at a loss for words so this is new to me, but new isn't bad.

I'm hardly ever still and am NEVER quiet, so I'm learning to practice Ps. 46:10....Be still and know that I am God.

I'm still...and I'm knowing!

I'll be back soon to regular postings....I guess that's if God thinks I'm done being still!

Idle Hands

Ecclesiastes talks about idle hands.

I realized that I haven't blogged about my knitting projects lately. There are definitely no idle hands here...

First up is a gorgeous model. This is a free pattern knit with some leftovers I had in my stash. I think it's Bernat's Cottontots. The only modification I made was to knit it in the round instead of seaming the sides....I hate seaming! Super quick and super cute pattern though.
The next project was my vacation project. It's the 'Good Guest Dress' from The Yarn Girls Guide to Knits for Older Kids. It's knit with Knit Picks shine worsted yarn. It looks way cuter on a model than on the hanger but the model needed to rest. I didn't make any modifications from the pattern but I should have knit it in the round instead of seaming the sides.
And now on to my sock obsession! Here's some Monkeys knit in some amazingly soft and squishy Sunshine Yarn. I love this yarn and love the pattern even more. I've knit this pattern before but this time I did it with no purls. They'll definitely be at the top of my sock drawer come fall.
Here's some Jaywalkers knit in Lorna's Laces. Oh, and remember I knit these with the leftovers of this yarn.

And some really boring man-socks...except I can't really call them socks cause it's more like sock.
But I have cast on for the second one...but not made much progress. Oh the cursed second-sock syndrome!

Heidi's going to be really excited to see the next one. It's her Booby Socks....or rather Booby Sock. Man, I've got to get over this second sock syndrome.
I tried to get a close up of the detail on this sock cause it really is pretty cool. Sadly, this was the best picture I could get. The top part looks like footsteps to represent all of the steps taken in the Race for the Cure. Then in the middle is the pink ribbon. Under that is a booby, complete with a bead for the nipple. And finally there is a mammogrammed booby. Oh and I can't forget the star toe since every woman is a star!
And finally, this is what's on the needles now (instead of the second socks of the man socks and booby socks). It's some cute little ankle socks knit in some Yarn Pirate yarn. It's my first short row heels. Look, no holes!I like this picture though...it looks like he's smiling.Ok, I'd better stop before I make blogger blow up with all of the links!

Greatmom

This is Greatmom holding Mara Lin four and a half years ago. She loved to sing hymns to her.
Here she is again holding Emily Elizabeth right at 3 years ago. I can guarantee that she was either singing or humming hymns to her when this picture was taken.
And here she is serenading Becca Sue almost two years ago, and less than a year before she passed away.

Even when she couldn't remember the babies' names or what day it was there towards the end, she never forgot one word of those old hymns.

I can just see Greatmom holding my baby right now in heaven...and I can hear 'Blessed Assurance' or 'Great is Thy Faithfulness'.

Give my baby a kiss for me Greatmom.

It's not about me.

I should be going to the hospital five months from now and bringing home another healthy baby....I should not have gone to the hospital yesterday.

I should have signed a circumcision/no circumcision form at the hospital....I should not have signed a consent to empty the contents of my womb.

I should be shopping for maternity clothes right now....I should not be wondering what in the world I'm going to wear now to make me not look pregnant.

I should be finding out if the baby is a boy or girl and picking out a name in just two weeks....I should not be wondering if my heart will start to heal in the next two weeks.

The probelm with everything I've just said? I, I, I, I.

It's not about me.

I teach my girls on a daily basis that God made us and all things FOR HIS GLORY. If it's all about me, then I am not bringing glory to God.

So I am going to choose to glorify my God by going to Him for comfort and peace. I'm going to glorify God by thanking Him for the tiny life He put inside of me. I thank God for this precious one that I will never meet here on earth. And I will glorify God by relying on His amazing grace while my heart is still broken.
